While most people who buy insurance are honest, there are those who make a business out of defrauding the insurance industry. The cost of fraud is a serious issue for both the insurance industry and the insurance consumer. Vigilance in the face of this threat is a responsibility of all those involved in the industry. This threat exists in addition to the problems caused by individuals that fall victim to the temptation of circumstance combined with a certain amount of moral weakness.
This course is designed to help students understand the impact of fraud and the role that they, as insurance professionals, can play in addressing it. The course addresses the issue of fraud across the major lines of insurance. The key objectives of this course are:
  • Promoting awareness and understanding of the problem and its costs
  • Describing how insurance fraud is committed
